Acrylics are the most modern type of artificial nail used by girls to look fashionable. There are different types and colors of acrylic nails that can be used according to the personal choice of the clients. We’ll discuss in this article about how long do acrylic nails last?
What are acrylic nails?
Acrylic nails are artificial nails that are used as an extension. They are placed over the natural nails. Other names of acrylic nails are artificial, fake, false, and fashion nails. They are also called as nail extensions and nail enhancements.
Material of Acrylic Nails:
The materials or items used in making acrylic nails are a mixture of powder and liquid. The liquid and the powder are mixed together and kneed in the form of dough, which is then applied to the original nails with the help of a brush.
Procedure for the application of acrylics:
It is a very lengthy procedure and requires a lot of time and concentration. That is why it is costly. All the basic steps are elaborated entirely in this article. Please have a look at them!
Preparation of the nails for acrylic nails:
You have to cut the cuticle if needed or simply push it back because acrylic nails will not be attached to the cuticle. They only stick to the actual nail. Then you have to make sure that there is no dust or shine on the nail and it does not buff off.
Application of a nail tip:
It is an optional step. You should do it if you are a beginner or also if you want to secure the acrylics for a more extended period. You have to pick the correct size and then apply it to the nail with the help of nail glue. Apply a little pressure to secure it in place. Tweezers can also be used if required. After it is attached firmly, you should work on the shape and length of the nail. File the nail to your desired shape and length. A good filer works wonders. For cutting, use a nail cutter instead of nail scissors. The latter is trickier to use.
Filing and dusting:
While filing, make sure that you support the top of the nail, or it may break down or come off. It would be best to properly blend the artificial and natural nails for excellent results. After the filing is completely done, use a lint-free pad to remove the dust from the nail. When you are ensured that there is no dust particle left on the nail, apply an adequate amount of dehydrator to the whole nail. It will quickly dry with the help of air, and a layer of white matte finish will appear on the entire nail. Then apply the primer.
Application of the acrylic mixture:
A special dish called dappen dish is used for this purpose. First, we have to put the liquid used for the making of the acrylic nails in the dappen dish. Then by using a flat brush, we take out a small amount of liquid. Remove the excess by brushing it off to the edge of the dish. Then put it into the powder to make a dough. It will not be any more significant than the size of a tiny golf ball. Put this golf ball onto the nail and spread it evenly from top to bottom. If the mixture is not enough to cover the entire nail, you may repeat the procedure again and again until your desired amount is achieved. Make sure to place the nail in the downward position to avoid a mess and for better results.
Use of a pinching tool:
This tool is not for beginners. This is used to give a more round shape to the nail. So, if you are a beginner, you may stick to the basic nail cutter and filer to shape your nails.
Drying process of the acrylic nails:
At first, wait three minutes for them to dry. Then, stroke it with the pinching tool. If it sounds hollow, it is still wet. If a sound of “ting” can be heard, that means the nail is completely dry. If the nail is not yet dried, wait for another two minutes and repeat the process until you hear the sound of ting. After complete drying, put a top coat on the entire nail to seal all the products used.
Lamp for drying:
If you don’t have a lamp for drying, then don’t worry; it will completely dry by air within three to five minutes. If you have a lamp, you have to put your hand inside it and turn it on. There are two types of lamps that use different kinds of lights for drying. These are
- UV lamp – it takes two minutes to dry the nails
- LED lamp – it takes one minute to dry the nails completely
