The only thing that links the various horror movie genres is making its audience feel scared, anxious, or uncomfortable. Hundreds of horror movies are released each year, ranging from low-budget independent shockers to higher-budget studio productions.

James Wan – Insidious (2010)
Insidious is a 2011 Canadian-American supernatural horror film directed by James Wan, written by Leigh Whannell, and starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne. Released in North America on April 1, 2011, it is the first installment in the insidious trilogy. An astral dimension wants to inhabit the body of a couple’s son, who is found to have fallen into a comatose state inexplicably.
The Silence of the Lambs (1991) by John Carpenter
It was directed by Jonathan Demme and starred Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, and Scott Glenn. Thomas Harris wrote the novel with the same title. The film revolves around young FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Foster), sent to interview incarcerated serial killer Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins). She hopes to elicit information that will help her solve another case.
James Wan – Saw (2004)
The saw is a series of six horror films released between 2004 and 2010. It was conceived by Australian Leigh Whannell, who wrote all six scripts, creating a franchise that has since expanded into novels, comic books, merchandise, and a video game. The series follows the tales of a serial killer, dubbed “Jigsaw” by the police because each of his crimes is accompanied by challenging puzzles meant to test the victims’ will to live.
The Evil Dead (1981) by Sam Raimi
Sam Raimi created the Evil Dead film series, four feature films, and a television show. The series is one of the most well-known and financially successful horror franchises in movie history, grossing over $250 million worldwide on a combined budget of less than $20 million. Each film involves characters pulled into the woods near an abandoned cabin they find, where demonic creatures terrorize them.
The Conjuring (2013) by James Wan
In 2013, James Wan directed and wrote the supernatural horror film The Conjuring. A new series of Conjuring films begin with this film. A dark presence haunts a family in their farmhouse, starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in this movie.
Paranormal Activity (2009) – Sam Raimi
It was written, co-produced, photographed, edited, and directed by Oren Peli in 2009. It is the first installment of the Paranormal Activity film series, which was followed by six sequels.

The Paranormal Activity 3 (2011) by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman
Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost wrote and directed “Paranormal Activity 3”, a supernatural horror film based on found footage. A prequel to the first Paranormal Activity film, it is the third installment of the series. In theaters and IMAX, the film was released on October 21, 2011. It received mixed reviews from critics, in contrast to its predecessors. Still, it was a financial success, grossing over $141 million at the box office despite having a smaller budget than its predecessors combined.
